The Agriculture Learning Center is First of its Kind in Arkansas and the Four States Region!
The Four States Fair, in partnership with The Southeast United Dairy Industry Association (SUDIA), opened the Ag Learning Center in 2006 to promote dairy education and agricultural awareness in children. The center is the first of its kind in Arkansas and in the four states region. Now the focus of the Ag Learning Center is to educate students the importance of Agriculture in every day life, and has an emphasis on farm to table education.
Farmers are responsible for providing this nation with the three main essentials it takes to live – food, clothing, and shelter. Farmers provide us with a variety of food with livestock, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and grains. Farmers provide us with fibers such as cotton, wool, and flax plants to enable clothing and money to be made, and lastly, farmers provide us with lumber from tree farms to allow us to make paper, furniture, houses, buildings, and much more. Look around you, the clothes you are wearing, the food you’re eating, the car you drive, even your television are all made possible because of plant and animal products and by-products.
At a time when less than 2% of Americans are actively involved in farming, each generation is farther removed from agriculture and its importance. Today’s children will become tomorrow’s leaders. By impressing upon them the significance of agriculture, we can help to ensure the livelihood of our country for generations to come. With the removal of people from farming, also removed is the knowledge of food and fiber sources for many of our children, The programs provided by the Ag Learning Center strive to educate youth within the Four States area on this importance using fun filled interactive programs, activities, and events.
The Ag Learning Center is open year-round for fun filled educational programs for groups of children of all ages. Groups such as schools, 4-H clubs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church youth groups, home schools, pre-schools, day cares, and other educational organizations are all welcome! Individuals can also book programs for children with a minimum of 15 children required for a program. The Ag Learning Center provides programs that seek to educate children about the importance of dairy and agricultural in today’s society in a fun interactive way. If you are interested in booking a program call 870-774-MILK (6455) or email ALC @fourstatesfair.com.
