Leading the Way: Dr. Benjamin Neuman

Dr. Benjamin Neuman 
Professor and Chair of the Biology Department
Texas A&M University – Texarkana  

With a BS in Biology and a PhD studying avian coronaviruses, Dr. Neuman has been researching different coronaviruses for 24 years and was part of a team that solved the structures of several important virus proteins.  His work has looked at the structure of the virus particle and the location in cells where the virus grows. More recently, as a member of the International Committee on the Taxonomy of Viruses – Coronavirus study group (ICTV-CSG) he helped name SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. 

Dr. Neuman has worked on designing and testing anti-virals for a number of viruses, including the SARS group of coronaviruses. Dr. Neuman has written over 50 publications about how viruses work and is a sought after expert, offering clear and understandable information to the public via international media outlets and social media.
