The Scholars: Spreading Knowledge One Workshop at a Time
Ms. Chiquita Burks (left), Ms. Rhonda Dolberry (second from left), and Ms. Krystal Hughes (right) have proven to be remarkable and prolific leaders in the Texarkana community with their involvement with The Scholars. As emerging and dynamics leaders, they have assembled an intelligent and ambitious group of school aged students to accomplish one mission: to spread knowledge. Several mainstays of The Scholars involve increasing academic and entrepreneurial skills through workshops and traveling experiences to expand their perspectives and worldviews.
The central focus of the workshops includes good citizenship, business skills, leadership skills, and the arts. Culturally, The Scholars have been exposed to African drums, African dance, community service at the Ronald McDonald House in Little Rock, AR, food banks at Harvest Texarkana, and local community centers. Under the leadership of Ms. Dolberry, Ms. Burks, and Ms. Hughes, The Scholars have experienced unforgettable trips to Selma, Alabama, the Federal Reserve Museum, the MLK museum and monument, The White House, The Capital, the Smithsonian Zoo, and the Arlington Cemetery.
