Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Kappa Xi Omega Chapter of Texarkana, TX
This week we celebrate the amazing women who are members of Texarkana’s Kappa Xi Omega chapter of the AKA sorority, women who were lifted up this year with a nomination for Leadership Texarkana’s Wilbur Awards for exemplary community leadership by an organization.
Nominated by Treasa Mills, this prestigious organization is dedicated to empowering families through their Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) and Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Packs (CHIPP). The chapter has delivered over 1500 bags of nutritious food to students at Dunbar Elementary. With its unwavering commitment to community service and engagement, the local chapter works through various initiatives for uplifting and empowering marginalized communities: at AR Middle School, their Youth Leadership Institute uses a learn-by-doing approach, promoting youth-led meetings and shared responsibilities, and creating a safe space for children who may be facing food insecurity. YLI also ensures that these future leaders are equipped to become exemplary citizens.
Through it all, this well-deserving organization has been leading the way in demonstrating what leadership looks like to the next generation. CONGRATULATIONS and THANKS to everyone involved, for stepping up to lead the way to Community Excellence in Texarkana USA!
Leadership Texarkana’s Wilbur Awards have been given annually since 1992, in memory of community servant and historian Wilbur Smith. Celebrating the power of one to positively impact our community, the Wilbur Awards are given in three categories, honoring adults, youth, and organizations to individuals and groups who demonstrate exemplary leadership in the community and a commitment to working together for community excellence.
