What have you learned most about making a difference in Texarkana (or about your opportunity for community leadership) from being a part of Leadership Texarkana?
Every time I have an opportunity for leadership in Texarkana it has enriched my life! I have grown from each experience. I have met wonderful new friends and learned about great things in our town. I have always found that I always receive more than I give.
What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership to me is surrounding yourself with wonderful people and listening to what they have to say. I have always found that those around me have fabulous ideas. I just get to organize them.
For what community organization or issue or opportunity do you have a passion and invest your time, talent or money?
I am very interested in my church (First Baptist – Moores Lane). I have always been a big supporter of Christus St. Michael Hospital. I am very interested in CASA. My husband has become a volunteer and it has made me very aware of the need in our town for more volunteers. I am also very interested in our downtown.
If you had one wish and could make a difference of significance in Texarkana (your small corner) what would you do with that one wish and why?
My wish would be to take care of the children that are not cared for in our community. I think we are doing a lot in our town but I think there are still some that are slipping through the cracks. There are some new efforts going on right now with CASA to help.
What do many people not know about you that you would to share with us? What are some of your passions and hobbies?
There is not much that folks don’t know. Maybe that I helped start the Great Texarkana Duck Race. My passions- I love what I do as a career. I love helping people get in a home. It is so rewarding! I am blessed to work at a fabulous bank with amazing bankers. They are so good to me. I absolutely adore my family! I have a great husband, daughters and sons by marriage and amazing grandchildren. I have a great mom and had a great dad. Wonderful siblings. I play a little golf and travel. I am blessed!
What do you most love to do in Texarkana?
We love our church. We enjoy going to Texarkana Country Club. We have great restaurants. We enjoy the Perot. There is so much to do here. It is a beautiful city.
