A Program of Leadership Texarkana

2019 Wilbur Award Nominees

For the coming few What’s to Love Txk blasts, we will share a bit more about all of the individuals who were nominated for 2019 Wilbur Awards.

Leadership Texarkana’s Wilbur Awards have been given annually since 1992, in memory of community servant and historian Wilbur Smith. Celebrating the power of one to positively impact our community, the Wilbur Awards are given in three categories, honoring adults, youth, and organizations to individuals and groups whose demonstrate exemplary leadership in the community and a commitment to working together for community excellence.

George Chappel  is the Operations Coordinator for the Texarkana Urban Transit District (T-Line) and considers it a mission to ensure that the over 300,000 trips per year are provided. Since many of the passengers are individuals with disabilities, seniors and economically disadvantaged, this service is very important to the physical health, economic vibrancy and overall well-being of TXK USA. He has been with T-Line since its inception in 2000 and hires, trains and supervises all drivers. With constant changes, he works to meet the requirements of the State DPS.  Public transportation continues to have challenges, and George has stepped up to meet our area’s needs
