Leader Profile: 2019 Wilbur Award Honoree Isabel Sanchez
Minister, Sacred Heart Catholic Church
For the coming few What’s to Love Txk blasts, we will share a bit more about all of the individuals who were nominated for 2019 Wilbur Awards. Leadership Texarkana’s Wilbur Awards have been given annually since 1992, in memory of community servant and historian Wilbur Smith.
Celebrating the power of one to positively impact our community, the Wilbur Awards are given in three categories, honoring adults, youth, and organizations to individuals and groups whose demonstrate exemplary leadership in the community and a commitment to working together for community excellence.
Teaching kids for well over a decade, Isabel exhibits leadership and dedication to all the youth whose lives she touches. As a minister of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she has a mission of working together to positively effect the kids of our community. She donates her time and talent as a teacher of Mexican Folklore dance for youth and has a smile on her face each time she has rehearsal.
She works for the well-being of these young students to build a better future. She tirelessly devotes herself helping to educate Hispanic students and teaching students and parents. Her group of young dancers performed at Texarkana College Cinco de Mayo and Day of the Dead events and has been invited to perform at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Texas A&M University, TRAHC, Dunbar Elementary and On the Border events; as Isabel says ‘we go wherever we are invited.’
