1. Now’s the Time
Lean into learning! Register for great opportunities at our outstanding higher education institutions Texas A&M University – TexarkanaTexarkana College, and University of Arkansas at Hope-Texarkana. All offering virtual classes to broaden your horizons!

Take advantage of TAMU-Ts fall classes related to today’s political climate: Public Health & Epidemiology, courses that examine the historical development and contemporary nature of political parties; Political Ideologies in the United States or from around the world, African-American political thought, and gender ideologies; Public Administration & Leadership. Courses are structured to be ideal for working students and students with families.” Apply and register for fall courses before August 24, the first day of the semester. For information about applying to Texas A&M University-Texarkana, visit www.tamut.edu/admissions.

B&J’s Diner is committed to strengthening our community and helping meet hospital and patient needs through blood donations. This blood drive is our way of giving back to the community. Please donate!

4. Save Jane
Thursday, August 13

On August 13, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., local volunteers and community members will join the Texarkana Children’s Advocacy Center and CASA for Children Texarkana in taking a stand against child abuse through a live video on their Facebook pages with the first-ever Save Jane event. Learn more here!
 

5. Virtual Mental Health Update – Texarkana College
August 13 – August 14

This program at Texarkana College is designed to provide continuing education that will enhance the treatment and interventions of mental health professionals and criminal justice professionals that will enable them to provide quality care to those suffering from mental health issues so that they become functionally independent and mentally healthy citizens in this community. Register here! 

Additionally, Texarkana College Fall Classes begin August 19, 2020. We are ready to help you get registered for classes and you can choose to make an appointment with an advisor who can assist you virtually or in-person. Whether you’re starting college for the first time, continuing your degree or certificate, or picking up online classes to save on university tuition, TC’s academic degrees and workforce training programs will put you on the path to a new career in a high-demand field. 6. The TALK with Dr. Alyson Denson
August 14 (for guys) – August 15 (for girls)

The TALK is a seminar for 5th-7th graders. We will discuss teen health (physical, mental, and spiritual), parenting a teen, and puberty and sex. This event combines physician guidance and realistic tips, all from a Christian perspective. Register today at TheTALKbyDenson.com.
 

7. Two Old Ladies and Louie the Llama
Friday, August 14

Join the Texarkana Museums Systems Curator Jamie Simmons and Board President Velvet Hall Cool as they delve into the lovely, lively world of llamas with crafts and activities devoted to these wonderful creatures. 8. Free COVID Testing
Free COVID-19 testing has been extended for one more week at the Bowie-Texarkana Health Department at 902 W. 12th Street Texarkana, TX 75501 Monday through Saturday, August 10th-August 16th from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
