Texas’s 6th Court of Appeals – in Texarkana – Has Superlatives to Celebrate!

The Texarkana 6th Court of Appeals is one of only fourteen intermediate appellate courts in the State of Texas. It is also one of the oldest appellate courts in Texas.  Founded in 1907, the Court is in its 115th year in operation. It was the sixth intermediate appellate court created by the Texas Legislature.  At that time, the only other cities with intermediate appellate courts were Houston, Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. Think about that. While there is speculation as to why Texarkana was chosen as the home base for this appellate court, it was likely because of the presence of the railroads and the economic growth in the area at the time.

The Court continues to serve nineteen counties in Northeast Texas and is regularly recognized as one of the most efficient intermediate appellate courts in Texas.  It also handles transfer cases from other intermediate appellate courts throughout the State of Texas. Congratulations to the team of Court Justices and legal support staff whose reputation for excellence is a superlative we can all celebrate!
