Jo Ann Rice is Leading the Way in Texarkana USA

Mrs. Rice is a member of Hamilton Memorial AME Church, where she has served as Missionary President, Co-Chair with her late husband, Mr. Arties Lee Rice, of the TV Ministry and Leader of the Young Women Initiative. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. where she has been 1st, 2nd, and 3rd vice president, Secretary, Financial Secretary, Archonette Advisor, and Epsilon Pi Undergraduate Sponsor. Other activities include YWCA Board Member, Literacy Council of Bowie and Miller Counties, Past President; Wilbur Smith Rotary Club- past President; Ronald McDonald Charities, Past President; Texas Association of Partners In Education Past Secretary; Leadership Texarkana   Graduate 2000; Leadership Texarkana Past Curriculum Chair, Conifer Girl Scout Board Member; Junior League Of Texarkana Past Executive Committee Member, Crime Stoppers Board Member, Boy Scouts Learning for Life Committee Board Member, Temple Memorial Treatment Center 2nd Vice President; Komen Race for the Cure Past Publicity Co-Chair, United Way Loaned Executive, Texarkana Pan Hellenic Council Member, American Heart Association Heart Walk Vice Chair; Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council Secretary, President Elect; Women for the Arts Member, Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors,  Wadley Regional Foundation Board, Texarkana Repertory Company Advisory Committee, City of Texarkana Civil Service Commission, Women for A & M, Secretary presently Board Member the  Texarkana Texas Housing Authority.

Mrs. Rice has been the recipient of the following awards: Betty Scharff Memorial Award for Reading Teacher (1994), Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers (1993-1994), Texas A & M University Texarkana Alumni of the Year, (1997), Texas A & M University Texarkana Graduation Speaker (1998), Community Service Award, St. Paul Baptist Church (1998), Community Service Award, Hamilton Memorial AME Church, (1998), Wilbur Award, Leadership Texarkana, (2000), Rotary Paul Harris Fellow (2007 & 2014), NAACP of Texarkana Arkansas Education Award (2002), Texas Association of Partners In Education “Outstanding Partnership Liaison Award” (2005), Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council Hero Award (2006), Nominee for “One of the 20 Most Beautiful Women in Texarkana,” (December 2009 ALT Magazine) Texarkana.
