We Are Washington is Leading the Way in Texarkana USA

At Leadership Texarkana’s 15th annual Lunch with Leaders, the 2024 Wilbur Award for exemplary community leadership by an Organization was presented to We Are Washington. (Nominated by Gina Flickinger).

We are Washington is a comprehensive community outreach center focused on enhancing the quality of life of both children and adults. The center offers a variety of well-attended programs in the three wings of the center: The Recreation, Life Skills and Partnership Wings. Each wing offers programs that attract, teach and serve hundreds who find value in the many events occuring at the center. From indoor basketball, ping pong, and movies, to sewing, theatre and cooking, the center is a magnet offering activities that build knowledge, leadership and productive relationships, along with partnership supports such as GED prep, domestic violence aid, and fostering of entrepreneurship and so much more.

Leadership Texarkana’s Wilbur Awards have been given annually since 1992, in memory of community servant and historian Wilbur Smith. Celebrating the power of one to positively impact our community, the Wilbur Awards are given in three categories, honoring adults, youth, and organizations which demonstrate exemplary leadership in the community and a commitment to working together for community excellence.
