Wilbur Award Youth Nominees for Exemplary Community Leadership
This week we celebrate the amazing young adults from our local ISDs who were lifted up this year with nominations for Leadership Texarkana’s Wilbur Awards for exemplary community leadership by youth.
Arnija White – from LEISD
(Nominated by Holly Swecker) Arnija showcased exceptional leadership skills throughout her time at Liberty Eylau High School. Arnija’s unwavering positive outlook grounds her leadership abilities. Not only has she been an outstanding student, but she also possesses a remarkable level of expertise, efficiency, and critical thinking skills tackling challenges, regardless of their magnitude. Her intellect enables her to navigate through difficult situations with ease. Arnija exhibits a composed demeanor and a strong commitment to resolving any issues that may arise.
Lauren Hornsby – from PGISD
(Nominated by Jennifer Ford) Exceptional academic achievements placed Lauren at the pinnacle of her graduating class of 2024. Lauren also held the esteemed position of editor for The Hawk yearbook and was senior lieutenant of the Showstoppers drill team, in all roles motivating her teammates. Within the classroom, Lauren was consistently striving for excellence, initiating discussions and actively encouraging others to participate, transforming the entire atmosphere of the class. An outstanding role model in all endeavors, Lauren continuously strives to excel.
Jackson Davis – from TASD
(Nominated by Heather McKnight). At Arkansas High, Jackson consistently dedicated himself to serving both AHS and the Texarkana community. His outstanding character and exemplary conduct made him an exceptional role model for fellow students; as a campus mentor, Jackson actively supported and guided young men in his district, sharing the values of integrity and perseverance. With strong faith and a genuine desire to assist others realize their full potential, Jackson inspires and lifts up the youth of our community.
Nealy Kate Anderson – from TISD
(Nominated by Susan Waldrep) Nealy’s unwavering commitment to excellence is evident in her many achievements: Serving as the Director of Programming for Leadership Day for students in grades 3-8. Nealy has been recognized with the illustrious Think Win-Win award, spearheaded the Campaign Chairperson role for TISD’s TASC bid for VP, and was nominated as a Teens Serving Texas nominee, a distinction bestowed upon her by esteemed educators. Nealy exhibits an unmatched level of dedication, consistently going above and beyond to ensure the success of every endeavor.
William Huckabee – from Redwater ISD
(Nominated by Hiliary Harris) An outstanding young man with a remarkable dedication to serving others, Williams has been a prominent figure on his campus, successfully establishing a weekly Bible study; his prayer box, allowed individuals to freely seek solace in prayer anonymously. By actively engaging with the Running WJ Ranch through his voluntary work, William has not only gained a profound appreciation for his own capabilities but has also developed a genuine concern for those who have limitations.
Congratulations to all! We have no doubt that their leadership will continue to positively influence their peers in the years going forward–to the benefit of all, regardless of where their journeys taken them!
Leadership Texarkana’s Wilbur Awards have been given annually since 1992, in memory of community servant and historian Wilbur Smith. Celebrating the power of one to positively impact our community, the Wilbur Awards are given in three categories, honoring adults, youth, and organizations to individuals and groups who demonstrate exemplary leadership in the community and a commitment to working together for community excellence.
