Matthew Nix, M.D. is Leading the Way in Texarkana USA
Matthew Nix, M.D., was recently named Program Director for the UAMS Family Medicine Residency Program at the UAMS Southwest Regional Campus in Texarkana, formerly known to many as AHEC.
A Texarkana native, Nix graduated from Arkansas High School in Texarkana in 1995, received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas in 1999, and a doctorate in medicine from UAMS in 2003. He completed his residency training at the UAMS Southwest Regional Campus in 2006. Nix has published research and presented at the state and national level and has served in numerous leadership and advocacy positions, including the Arkansas Early Childhood Commission and the Arkansas Child Health Advisory Committee.
Prior to this promotion, Nix was an associate professor and medical director for the UAMS Family Medical Center in Texarkana, Arkansas. Nix is a member and former president of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). He is a fellow of the AAFP and a diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine. Nix is a past recipient of the UAMS Regional Programs “Excellence in Teaching Award.”
UAMS Family Medicine Residency Program at the UAMS Southwest Regional Campus (UAMS – Southwest) is a three year ACGME accredited residency program that was opened in 1993 and trains 8 physicians per class (24 total). The program has trained 195 family physicians, many of whom still practice in the local area including 34 that practice in Texarkana, USA. Residents and faculty also practice at the UAMS Family Medical Center on campus and the school-based clinic in Fouke, AR, caring for over 19,000 outpatient visits annually, in addition to seeing 12,000 patients at our local hospitals annually.
