Did You Know? AHS Band Director Gary Meggs in final Top 25 for 2019 Music Educator Award
The Recording Academy and Grammy Museum recently announced the 2019 Music Educator Award semifinalists from over 2,800 initial nominations submitted from all 50 states. The Music Educator Award recognizes educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education in schools. Each year, one recipient is selected and recognized for their remarkable impact on students’ lives and is honored at the Grammy awards.
Gary received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from Henderson State University. Prior to becoming the AHS Band Director, Mr. Meggs was the director of jazz graduate studies at the University of Arkansas. Additionally, Mr. Meggs has served as director and coordinator of bands/music at schools across the state of Texas.
“We are proud to have Mr. Meggs as the band director in the Texarkana Arkansas School District,” commented Dr. Becky Kesler, superintendent. “His experience and love for music and his students has propelled our band program to the next level. Being named a semifinalist by the Recording Academy and Grammy Museum is a testament to the gifts and talents he brings to our band program.”
